I've always fantasized about a 3-d sculpture that once a year when the sun was just right would cast a fabulous shadow of some scene or other. 364 days a year it would be just an interesting sculpture, but for a few moments annually it would draw a crowd.

hmmm, fvan ~ that sounds very salvadore dali-ish to me. i had an art teacher who knew him and said when she met him, he was working on a piece that basically was splotches of paint on the walls and ceilings, etc. and that when the light hit a prism placed in the room just right, it made a picture. I can't remember all the details...

The other thing I've always wanted to do is a highway animation project. You know when you're driving down the country roads and you look straight down the orchard rows as you drive past? If you placed a large frame at the end of each row, and painted each frame a little different like in a cartoon, the hedge rows would act like a shutter and the passengers could enjoy a little diversion. Problems---distracted drivers, and mounting a couple hundred large frames. And farmer permission.
