I already posted about movies that are sad and yet we torture ourselves by sitting and watching them but this post is about movies that are so happy they make you cry.
Rudy was on this morning and I had forgotten how much I love that movie. If you haven't seen it, it's a true story about a young man who wants to attend Notre Dame and play football. It's one of the rarest kinds of movies that brings you to tears of joy. I cried the first time I watched it (several years ago) and I cried again this morning (I've already admitted I'm a dork). Plus I was surprised to see that Vince Vaughn was in this movie as well as Jon Favreau (hmmm, wonder if this is when "Swingers" was born?)
I've been trying to think of other movies that have made me cry from joy and not stemming from some death or trauma. I need help.
Can anyone think of any?
PS. go watch Rudy.

Actually, Rudy is one of my husband's favorite movies. One of those "guilty pleasures." I like it too. One of my favorite movies is You've Got Mail. I know it's a little hokey but I love how it feels - the way it depicts NYC through the seasons and of course, the happy ending. I also like Good Will Hunting, Serendipity, Say Anything, Love Actually, Notting Hill, 4 Weddings... and more of the like. Some of these movies are a little predictable but leave a smile on my face and a tear on my cheek (sniffle, sniffle).
Don't forget When Harry met Sally. ;)
You cried at those movies Preppygirl? All of those are feel good easy listening type movies, I'm talking about movies that make you cry from joy. I guess because Rudy is a true story maybe that made the difference for me.
Sherri, I find it very hard to believe you cried at When Harry Met Sally. Tell me it ain't so.
Good Will Hunting, Serendipity, Say Anything, Love Actually, Notting Hill, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, You've Got Mail...those are CHICK movies!
You know what got to me? The end of The Dirty Dozen, when Jim Brown was running and throwing the grenades down the air vents...
Okay, I'm quoting from Sleepless in Seattle.
I actually agree with Preppygirl, and OWN most of the movies on her list. (I'm a romantic, what can I say?)
I cried at the end of "Band of Brothers". Not because of death and carnage and all of that, but at learning what became of all those guys. I cried during some of the interviews, because we finally learned that these old guys sharing their experiences were the real guys depicted in the series, and that they'd gone on and had full lives.
But here's one you guys left off the list...and I'm shocked, because it's one of the best things Costner has ever done: "Field of Dreams"!

Oh,yes. thank you Yoda. I was really having a hard time thinking of another genuine movie that fits into the category that Rudy does. Field of Dreams is the same kind of cry because you're happy movie (without being predictable or sappy like the others mentioned ~ which are entertaining and fun movies to watch but not exactly tear jerkers)Someone told me Radio was also like that but I haven't seen that movie.
Whatever princess! You asked what made me feel good and I told ya. So sue me. I can't help that most of the movies I've seen are romantic comedies... it's what I like. Thanks Yoda for backing me up a little. And I do love Field of Dreams too. JEESH!
Just because it's dubbed a "romantic comedy" doesn't mean I can't feel cathartic at the end (and yes I do cry everytime I watch one of those damn things!) For crying out loud, I watched "First Daughter" last night and was bawling. I LOVE CHICK FLICKS. I am a chick afterall.
